Getting Things Done (GTD)
- Gmail - Gmail.
- Things - For Mac and iPhone. Todo list manager. Priceless
- LeechBlock - Firefox add-on that lets you block websites (that you specify) during specified times or whenever you choose to activate it (e.g. while writing a paper).
- Stay Focusd - Chrome Extension that blocks distracting sites.
[edit] Not my favorite, but still good
- Gmail shortscuts - faster workflow!
- L - and start typing the name of a label to label the email with that
- Shift + C - Compose a message in a new window
- [ - Archive the current message and go backward in your inbox
- ] - Archive the current message and go forward in your inbox
- Shift + click - Open a label in a new window
- Principles
- Always archive, never delete
- use labels as folders
- Inbox should only contain important emails
- reduce the noise (spam, listservs, non-profits that email you). have these things skip your inbox and go straight to a label/folder. check them once a day.
- eliminate the notifications (facebook, flickr, twitter, youtube, etc). have these skip your inbox and check them once a day.
- Instead of keeping emails that you need to respond to in your inbox, have a "NEED TO RESPOND TO" folder/label and put them in there. Check the folder once or twice a day when you have time to respond.
